This is a fictional map of space I made as proof of concept for space maps that are not linear but logarithmic/exponential in scale and also try to represent the third dimension which is important when mapping different star systems.
The important thing is that the distance is shown as the exponent of 10^x - meaning a distance of 2 equals to 10² which are 100 units of length, for example lightyears (ly). Distance of 3 are already 10³ = 1000 units of length!
This may be confusing at first, but it sure helps to deal with the vast distances space has to offer. The farthest planet on the map is 10^12.1 ly away which are incredible 125 billion (american english!) lightyears - but still there are planets on the map which are cosmic neighbours in a distance of 16 ly. You could never hope to fit that on a linear scale.
Also I used colors to break up the two dimensions of the map - seen from the equatorial plane as 0 level in green colors, the planets get more red/blue the more they are above/beneath earth.
